Join us for a Conversation on how comedy—practiced by professional comedians in comedy clubs—managed to survive the cancellation culture. Obviously, it was done with wit, but were jobs on the line, did comedy clubs close, what was it like for those in the business of laughter came to realize that their country no longer could take a joke—when the nation itself turned bitter and humorless. This was especially true on the college campus.
What topics were especially off-limits? Should any jokes (or humor that some deem to be offensive) ever be forbidden? Who kept the lights on in America’s funny houses and who notably and successfully pushed back against the tastemakers that prohibited comedy?
Join us with comedy club owner and free speech crusader Noam Dworman, and comedians Judy Gold and KC Shornima. It will be an evening that will make you think, and most of all, laugh, at a time in American culture that may, or may not, finally be behind us.
This program is produced in partnership with the Comedy Cellar.
